Editor’s note: This week’s playlist is something of a foot-tapper. Our Assistant News Editor Priyanka Gulati has put together some of her favourite techno tunes across a variety of sub-genres ranging from the dramatic to the spiritual. Find your earworm for the weekend!
Beats to put you in the groove
If you aren’t familiar with techno music, it is a form of electronic dance music that relies on electronic instruments instead of live ones. Its roots can be traced back to German electro-pop, but modern-day techno culture started from cities like New York, Detroit, and Chicago in the 1980s.
Okay, so techno is not everyone’s cup of tea (it gives some people anxiety!) but lovers of the genre will tell you that its melodic beats and simple lyrics can be transcendent. Techno has many sub-genres for every kind of emotional release, and it's a great way to find a community to feel empowered with music and dancing! Here are some of my favourite tracks across different genres and artists, take your pick and explore!
- ‘Camino’ by Tapesh: An upbeat song with afro-beats that’s sure to make you move.
- ‘On my mind’ by Diplo: Groove while dwelling over whatever (or whoever) is on your mind.
- ‘We are truth’ by East Forest: A Ram Dass techno chant is exactly what you need to let it all go.
- ‘No Eyes’ by Claptone: Claptone never fails to impress! The energy of this song is a constant reminder to let everything go and enjoy life.
- ‘On the floor’ - CCW Club mix: A mashup of the evergreen song ‘On the floor’ by Jennifer Lopez—it only gets better with time (and techno)!
- ‘Life in the tropics’ by Cienfue: This one will definitely make you want to have a sunny day by the beach and be one with the waves.
- ‘Wildflowers’ by Zimmer: This song brings the beats, while also reminding you of the beautiful connection you share with nature.
- ‘Dancin’ by Aaron Smith: This one was all over Reels for a reason! It makes you want to dance and immerse yourself in the moment.
