The winning images for the Astronomy Photographer of the Year are, expectedly, beautiful and otherworldly. They take us right back to that first trip to the planetarium and the jaw-dropping awe we experienced at a glimpse of the universe. Among this year’s winners is Portuguese photographer Miguel Claro whose images capture a huge solar prominence—a large, bright filament extending from the Sun's surface—are both detailed, and dramatic. Above is a time lapse video of 200 shots that he took of the event.
