About Champaca: We are writing to you from Champaca Bookstore, an independent, women-run bookstore and children's library in Bangalore. At Champaca, we curate our books and events to enable the discovery of diverse narratives. We are a community of readers. We have experienced the world differently thanks to the stories we've read and shared—they enrich us like nothing else, and we’re excited to share that with you! Until you can make it to our much-loved, quiet, green space in Bangalore, we can bring the books to you—we ship across India.
All through July, we've found ourselves involved in many new projects. After two years of being shut, we finally revived the children's library at Champaca! It is brimming with more than 1000 titles about friendly crocodiles, whales, witches and young children caught up in extraordinary adventures. At Champaca, starting a children's library has been a dream since our inception. After two years of screen fatigue, we hope that children will be eager to come to our library, curl up with a book and discover new stories with us. Find out more about our library here!
This month, we had author and oral historian Aanchal Malhotra drop by our space for the launch of her latest book ‘In the Language of Remembering’. In a deeply meaningful event with Thejaswi Shivanand, she discussed the importance of remembering stories, being able to hold multiple truths about the Partition of India, understanding loss and how there can be no one defining story of Partition. You can find some of those stories here.
Finally, on our social media, we had a great time giving people book recommendations based on emojis they sent us! You can check out all the books we recommended here.
And as always, you can find us and our book recommendations on our website, Instagram, and Twitter!
