Yesterday, we featured a quote from director Martin Scorcese praising the classic Malayalam film ‘Kumatty’. The 1979 film—directed by the great G Aravindan—was rescued from oblivion in the National Film Archive of India. The international effort to lovingly restore the film was led by filmmaker Shivendra Singh Dungarpur—who had to bring it back to life—without the original negatives and only some prints whose colours had faded. So the very fact that you can watch the trailer above is no less magical than the film.
