Editor’s note: Since we didn’t publish on Monday, here’s a mix of good reads and intriguing things:)
A list of good reads
- The Atlantic has an interesting essay that argues against the conventional wisdom of simply cancelling toxic people out of your life.
- Move over, kabbadi! Now there’s a professional league for kho kho players. Scroll has all the details
- Wall Street Journal (splainer gift link) has a very good piece on the toll we pay when we stop listening to our bodies.
- A binge-eating disorder is not the same as overeating. The List explains why.
- The Wire has a great read on the Punjabi word for ‘crap.’
- There are lots of apps that will help you eat less/better etc. The Cut has a useful list of tools to help you develop a healthier relationship with food.
A short list of intriguing things
One: An experiment called Your Future Guide helps people project themselves into the future and visualise their own world in 2050. You take a quiz with a bunch of interesting questions, and then let your ‘Future Guide’ show you what’s in store. Basically, this is a cool way to experience an exhibition that tries to show you what life in the future will be like. Below is a promo video. Or take the Future Guide for a spin. (Fast Company)
Two: Flowers plus chocolate! What’s not to like about Chocolate Cosmos aka Cosmos atrosanguineus? They are native to Mexico and now extinct in the wild. What’s most notable is their scent: “While some get a sense of red velvet cake, its fragrance reminds me of rich chocolate and the smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies—it is irresistible.” If you can get a hold of a cutting, they are not that hard to grow in your garden, or so The Spruce claims.
