A list of curious facts
One: Chinese retailers of lingerie have a little problem. The government strictly censors any image considered even remotely racy. So what’s an underwear vendor to do? Employ male models, of course! Yes, livestreaming shopping events on Alibaba etc. feature young men lounging around in lacy bras and barely there nighties—just to keep the censors happy. (Insider)
Bonus: Personally, we are far more impressed with this Japanese line of sexy lace lingerie for men. Now that’s what we call gender equality;)
Two: Did you know that when Hollywood movies are released in France, they get a new title? No, not a title in French but in English. And they all follow a curious pattern. Examples: ‘Step Up 2’ = ‘Sexy Dance 2’; ‘Not Another Teen Movie’ = ‘Sex Academy’; ‘Thanks For Sharing’ = ‘Sex Therapy’. But our favourite may be the one below. For more such brilliant ‘translations’ check out Juan Buis’ Twitter thread or the full list here.
Three: This one is for the beer lovers. There’s a good reason why your favourite tipple is sold in coloured bottles—and it’s called ‘skunking’. When hops in beer are exposed to strong sunlight, it results in a chemical reaction which releases a compound called 3-methyl-2-butene-1-thiol. And it smells exactly like, well, a skunk. So to protect the taste of the beer, it is sold in brown bottles. Apparently, most European brands use green bottles mostly for style—even though it doesn’t work as well. (CNN)
