Spandita Malik’s images are not your typical fare. She takes photos of women, transfers them on to fabric—and then asks the subjects of her photos to embroider them: “These women with their portraits, they had full agency. They chose to cover their faces, they embroidered themselves with gold [jewellery], they adorned the walls behind them in gold.” Here are some lovely examples. You can see the others and check out an interview with Malik over at BuzzFeed News (laptop viewing is highly recommended). Tap to zoom.
