A list of intriguing things
One: Ai-Da is the world’s first robot artist—who recently exhibited her work at the Great pyramid of Giza, Egypt. It marked the first time contemporary art has been allowed next to the pyramid in thousands of years. Also: on her way in, she was detained by Egyptian customs who were worried that she was a spy. Check out her work in the Reuters report below.
Two: Speaking of super-smart non-humans, a pizzeria in Paris is run entirely by a robot who does everything from prepping and topping the dough to taking customer orders. But as you can see, it cheats a bit when it comes to rolling out the dough—which is the mark of a true pizza maestro.
Three: They say overpriced phones are the adult version of toys. That’s now literally true thanks to Fisher-Price that has made a working version of its red “Chatter Telephone” pull toy—which used to be marketed as a baby’s first phone. The price: a reasonable $60—which may be all we can afford these days. Cnet has more on how it works. Also: we love the tongue-in-cheek ad!
Four: A couple in New Zealand made an astonishing discovery. No, it wasn’t some momentous archaeological artefact, but a gigantic potato the size of a small dog. It's possibly the largest potato on record—and weighs a remarkable 7.9 kilograms (17.4 pounds). FYI, it now also has a name: ‘Doug’. What will Doug be when he grows up? Likely a gigantic bottle of potato vodka. And no, Doug was not blessed with good looks. (NPR)
