Kawal Oberoi is an independent graphic designer, brand consultant, podcaster, and a casual archivist of desi aesthetics. We got in touch and asked him to pick 3 things he loves on (and would buy via) Souk.
Hand tufted in100% wool in Bhadohi, India, this rug combines high cut pile monkey, branch and leaf motifs with a low loop pile base to create a unique textured effect. You could absolutely walk all over it, but we’re also tempted to hang it up like the art piece it clearly is. It’s bold in presence, soft in tone, and hard to forget!

Crafted in India, this award-winning artisanal whey cheese tastes like a salted caramel milk fudge. Born in Norway, this brown whey cheese is made by simmering cheesemaking remnants until the sugars caramelize into a deep, fudge-like state. It has a texture strikingly similar to the classic Indian milk sweet, 'Peda.' In a nod to this resemblance, every block of Eleftheria's Brunost is stamped with the brand's initials in Devanagari—a charming artisanal detail that we find absolutely delightful!

Because they are handblown, no two of these borosilicate glass roses are exactly alike, turning every single piece into a unique collectible. We’re also quite partial to the pink chrysanthemum and the white tulip. You can even find this charming three-flower arrangement nestled in a vase, but we highly recommend browsing through the full handblown glass floral collection to find your own botanical favorite! A small tip: while borosilicate glass is durable, it isn’t invincible—keep these beauties away from children and clumsy hands to ensure they last a lifetime!
