A list of curious facts
One: Seriously cool eco-furniture now has an unlikely source—tennis balls! This sleek chaise lounge from Belgian eco-designer Mathilde Wittock doesn’t have any cushions. It’s padded instead with 500 “precisely arranged” balls—see lead image. FYI: “Around 300 million tennis balls are produced each year — and almost all of them end up in landfills, taking over 400 years to decompose.” (CNN)
Two: Sticking with designers, did you know that the irresistibly annoying Emily is flaunting India-inspired jewellery this season? Created by Mumbai-born Priyanka Mehta, her pricey trinkets are patterned on Indian architecture and motifs. Like the ‘Grace’ necklace inspired by inlay work at the Taj Mahal below. You can see the entire collection here. (Mint)
Three: Once upon a time, we marvelled at wedding crashers for hire. They have since been overshadowed by the wedding wrecker—Ernesto Reinares Varea. For the low, low price of €500, he will both crash and sabotage the nuptials:
You just have to tell me the time, date and place. I will appear in the middle of the ceremony saying that I am the great love of your life and we will run away together hand in hand.
There’s one little catch: You will have to pay extra for any injuries suffered in the line of duty. Every slap, punch or kick inflicted on him adds an extra €50 ($55.64) to the bill. (Brides.com)
Four: Pizza Hut now offers a novel way to apply for a job. Why email your resume when you can slap it on a pizza box instead. The "ResZAmes" service is basically a PR stunt—to cash in on all the new grads looking for jobs in September—and only available in New York City. Ofc, to work in India, it would have to be biryani only:) (Food & Wine)
Bonus fact: Speaking of funny food stunts, say hello to the “trauma candy salad”—the hottest thing on TikTok The recipe has only two ingredients: “equal parts sweet treats and traumatic life experiences. Mix well until combined and serve it piping hot to...the entire internet.” FYI: the trauma ranges from sexual abuse to eating disorders, divorce and bullying. See an example below. (Mashable)
