A list of curious facts
One: There is a global genre of protest art—dedicated to calling out terrible road maintenance. The latest example of, umm, ‘pothole’ artistry popped up in Manchester. The artist—who calls himself Wanksy—draws penises around potholes to get authorities to pay attention. And it works! Over the years, Wanksy has inspired other such creative souls. Like this guy in New Zealand—whose handiwork you can see below:
FYI: Indian artists are far more creative—and less into sexual shaming. Like Baadal Nanjundaswamy—who constructed a life-size crocodile in a 12-foot pothole in Bangalore. See: lead image. (Independent)
Two: Elon Musk is single-handedly changing the night sky. His company SpaceX launches as many as 50 satellites at a time—so many that people often mistake them for a fleet of UFOs. As National Geographic puts it:
You used to see a couple of satellites at the beginning of the night and it was very cool to see a ‘moving star’ in the sky…Now, every direction you look there are a few moving above you. They’ve stolen the show from the stars.
You can see a literal “train” of Starlink satellites below:
Three: Did you know Viagra could help relieve severe period pain? A 2013 study found that when inserted in the vagina, sildenafil citrate—the active ingredient in Viagra—had a huge effect:
At the beginning of the treatment, the participants rated their pain with an average of 93 on a 100-point scale. The average pain rating for the women who received sildenafil citrate decreased to 23 within two hours, and 9 after four hours.
But here’s the kicker: the lead researcher couldn’t get funding for further studies because the medical establishment is not interested in menstrual pain. So two decades later… we still got nada. STAT News has the rest of this infuriating story.
