A list of intriguing things: apparel & accessories edition
One: Machine Gun Kelly attended the Billboards Award sporting a $30,000 manicure—encrusted with 880 diamonds. Don’t worry! All that bling won’t go to waste, but will be upcycled into rings—whose proceeds will go to charity. (Vogue)
Two: The US brand Lorals has developed panties that can protect you from sexually transmitted diseases during oral sex:
“The single-use stretchy panties are made of latex and provide a physical protective barrier for users. The brand says its wearers enjoy full sensation, making it superior to existing options on the market, like dental dams.”
FYI: The panties are vanilla-flavoured and taste “like you’re eating a cookie.” Hmm, okay then. Check the underwear out here. (Quartz)
Three: Pushpak Sen is pushing gender stereotypes not with art or music—but by simply wearing saris wherever he goes in Kolkata. Nope, he doesn’t have an agenda or making a point about his identity: “I identify myself as a cis-gendered man who loves anything feminine. My masculinity or sense of existence is not that fragile that it would get shattered by a piece of clothing or makeup.” Indian Express has a nice profile of him. You can check out his insta for more images.
Four: Researchers at Harvard and MIT used the Japanese art of paper cutting—called Kirigami—to create shoe grippers for any kind of terrain. Sadly, these are meant for robots not humans :(
Five: Last not least, catsuits—the least forgiving piece of apparel known to women—is reigning supreme on the runways. Also very ‘in’: Neon lime. Feel free to accessorise a $890 Fendi shirt with $460 Fendi sunglasses. This is why we will never be on-trend.
