A list of intriguing things
One: This nebula lies about 5,200 light years from Earth—and is located in the constellation Monoceros the Unicorn. It is an ‘emission nebula’—as in its gases glow when energised by radiation from local stars. But here’s what’s intriguing about it. It is called a Rosette Nebula because in some images it looks all purty like this:
But in others, it fully lives up to its other eerier nickname: the ‘Skull Nebula’. Spooky! (Constellation Guide)
Two: This is for all the Beatles fans. Rare early photographs of the world’s most famous boy band have recently surfaced. The images taken in 1961 capture them as skinny young things playing at the Cavern Club in Liverpool—before they’d released a single track. Three months later, they got themselves the iconic ‘Beatle haircut’—and were spotted by manager Brian Epstein just days later. See what a good haircut can do for you? (The Guardian)
Three: San Francisco has a new, very fancy fine dining restaurant…for dogs! Called Dogue—of course!—it features a $75 tasting menu. The items include dishes like “petit gateau with shredded chicken and pastured cream, the red rose with wild antelope heart, and the golden paste cake with organic coconut and raw unfiltered honey.” As one reporter on Twitter put it: "San Francisco's eye-roll-inducing power remains unmatched."
