A list of intriguing things
One: This bizarre pair of Oakley sunglasses is called Overthetop—for obvious reasons!—and they’re suddenly having a fashion moment, according to Vogue.
Two: Speaking of eyewear, how about these glasses designed especially for Black people by Reframd—an “Afropolitan” brand. Why Reframed: “Traditionally most off-the-shelf or ready-to-order glasses are designed around ‘Caucasian’ nasal features, i.e., narrow and high nasal bridges. Consequently, people with low and wide bridges wear ill-fitting products (ex. Black or South-East Asian).”
Three: This 1966 portrait—painted by American artist Alice Neel—is currently on display at an art exhibit in Manhattan. The subject of this painting, titled merely ‘Woman’, is Ujjaini Bhattacharya, a lonely, homesick student, dreading her upcoming stint at University of Michigan. And guess what? She didn’t even remember sitting for the artist until Scroll tracked her down!
Four: These are the world’s most expensive fries, priced at a whopping $200 (Yes, this is an actual Guinness World Record). The 'creme de la creme pommes frites' is made of high-quality potatoes triple cooked in pure goose fat, then blanched in J. LeBlanc French Champagne-Ardenne vinegar, and dusted with pecorino tartufello and black summer truffles from Italy. The final touch: “they are seasoned with Guerande truffle salt, sprinkled with 23 carot edible gold dust and served on a Baccarat crystal Arabesque plate for a touch of added opulence.” Mercifully, the Gelusil you will need after eating all this (literally) rich food still costs less than Rs 200.
