Back in the 1940s, a 16-year old Algerian girl Baya Mahieddine captivated some of the biggest names in the European art establishment—including Andre Breton, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso—even influencing their work. Her paintings are finally getting overdue attention in a new exhibition in New York.
