We find great pleasure in the images of unspoiled nature—which offer momentary comfort from our knowledge of man-made destruction that threatens its future. But Edward Burtynsky’s work finds shocking beauty in scenes of that very destruction—quarrying, mining, recycling, oil refining and ship breaking. The images both mesmerise and repulse all at once. ‘Anthropocene’ is the title of this documentary trailer, but also this compelling series of photographs taken during the filming.
