A list of intriguing things
One: This 850-plus-year old sculpture in the Airavatesvara temple is one of the oldest examples of illusion in art—both elephant and bull at the same time. It is just one such ancient and intriguing example included in this wonderful Scientific American essay. We highly recommend making the time to read, look and enjoy.
Two: Fur art. Yup, these are great classic arts—from Mona Lisa by da Vinci to the Scream by Edvard Munch—reimagined as ‘furry’ abstract creations. Scale Magazine has more. Below: Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'. (h/t founding member Sindhu Nair)
Three: This 'orange tartan cotton long smock shirt’ aka dress for men sells for £1,700. The description: “This tartan smock in delicate colours reflects the idea of fluidity explored for the Fall/Winter 2020 fashion show, disrupting the toxic stereotypes that mold masculine gender identity. The contrast Peter Pan collar and smock embroidery on the front add a childhood inspired element, which ties to a recurrent theme of the collection.” Of course, it’s Gucci. Of course, it is highly overpriced and unattractive.
Four: BBC News has a lovely video report on the ‘walking fish’ discovered in the depths of the Great Barrier Reef (Yes, it actually walks). We also highly recommend this ‘greatest hits’ version of the seriously goofy creatures photographed by the deep sea expedition.
