Where does one even buy a floppy disk these days?

That’s what Japan’s grumpy digital minister Taro Kono asked—while declaring “war” on this 50-year-old method of storing data. Japanese businesses are still required to use disks to complete 1,900 government-related procedures—to submit applications and other documents. A bit surprising since Sony stopped manufacturing floppy disks back in 2010. But the task of convincing bureaucrats may not prove easy. As one of them pointed out: the disks “almost never broke or lost data.” FYI: they are not fond of Kono’s plan to banish fax machines either.
