Dive In


Sushovan da can’t be defined in words. He treated countless patients in his 50-year-long career. During the pandemic, he was the one who used to rush to the homes of patients caring little for the fear of contracting the infection. He was a true humanitarian.

That’s a Bengali teacher mourning the death of Sushovan Banerjee—Bengal’s famous “ek takar daktar’’—who charged just Re 1 from his patients his entire life. Banerjee also set a Guinness Record in 2020 for treating the greatest number of people. He passed away from a kidney-related condition at the age of 84. It’s good to remember that some of India’s greatest heroes rarely make front-page news.
