About Champaca: We are writing to you from Champaca Bookstore, an independent, women-run bookstore and children's library in Bangalore. At Champaca, we curate our books and events to enable the discovery of diverse narratives. We are a community of readers. We have experienced the world differently thanks to the stories we've read and shared—they enrich us like nothing else, and we’re excited to share that with you! Until you can make it to our much-loved, quiet, green space in Bangalore, we can bring the books to you—we ship across India.
We've been spending a lot of time reading and enjoying the rains in Bangalore from our store. If you're in Bangalore, do come by our space to say hi, and pick up your next reads!
In May, we went back to hosting full-fledged offline events. We had a lovely book reading of ‘The Great Rifasa’ by author Rohini Nilekani with a packed house of enthusiastic children. We also hosted a conversation between educator Venkatesh Onkar and Author Ashwin Prabhu on his latest book, ‘Classroom With A View,’ which draws from the everyday pedagogy of Krishnamurthy schools and looks at learning expansively.
We're also looking forward to entering our birthday month—we turn three in June!
As we reflect on our three eventful years of running a bookstore—we are extremely grateful to everyone that has enabled us in big and small ways to function and stay open through a global pandemic. Most importantly, we're glad to have found a community of fellow readers to discover new stories and books with.
In other exciting news, we will be launching the new theme for the third instalment of our Champaca Book Subscription in the first week of June. We can't wait to share our carefully curated selections and read them with you—keep an eye out for the launch!
And as always, you can find us and our book recommendations on our website, Instagram, and Twitter!
