Our lead image today is Katsushika Hokusai’s ‘Under the Wave off Kanagawa’ aka ‘The Great Wave’—which is the single most iconic piece of Japanese art—almost as famous and instantly recognizable as the ‘Mona Lisa’. But we reserve a special place in our heart for Utagawa Hiroshige’s ‘A Red Plum Branch against the Summer Moon.’ Just a little beauty break on a Friday to brighten up the end of a work week :). Also: Christie’s has a lovely illustrated introduction to great Japanese woodblock artists—including Hiroshige.
