A list of intriguing things
One: Photographer Platon has taken photos of some of the most recognizable faces in the world. Think: the Obamas, Vladimir Putin, Serena Williams, Elon Musk, Harry Styles et al. Now, he has blown up one tiny bit of those portraits—a super close up view of a single iris of their eye—and has released them as a series. But here’s the real kicker: They are being sold as NFTs—i.e. they are virtual. We are intrigued but mostly bewildered. CNN has more details, below is the promo for the series, and you can see the individual portraits of the irises here (FYI, some of them look a little creepy, especially Musk).
Two: Can we ever get enough of Vincent van Gogh? This is a fabulous immersive art exhibit—that physically (not virtually) puts the viewer in his paintings. Architectural Digest has more on the exhibit. Below is a short news report with highlights. But if you have the interest and the patience, we recommend this 20-plus minute gorgeous video that just streams through the various paintings.
Three: Founding member Ruchika Chanana sent along this excellent video of a 30-egg omelette—cooked under the Palam flyover in Delhi.
Four: Speaking of food, Bangladesh’s largest restaurant is called Project Hilsa which only serves… hilsa. It is 40,000 square feet large, seats 300 people and looks like a hilsa. (This one is for all of our Bengali friends).
Five: Cuttings of this plant—the pink princess philodendron—sell for a ridiculous $100. The reason:
“Well, pink princess is beloved for its heart-shaped leaves and streaks of bright pink that resemble a crescent moon or splotches on an abstract artwork. It’s pricey because of its rarity, as it can only be grown from tissue culture in a lab, and only a few from each batch reveal their pink pigmentation.”
