A list of intriguing things
One: This is a recent and rare sighting—thanks to a deepsea robot—of a gigantic phantom jellyfish whose arms grow up to 33 feet long. They live between 3,300 to 13,100 feet beneath the surface of the ocean. It’s truly an astonishing thing to behold! And if you’re really in the mood for strange-looking marine creatures, take a look at the ‘cheeseburger fish’.
Two: OriHime is green-eyed and only nine inches tall—and it is the Japanese government’s solution for people who struggle with social anxiety. The robot allows them to interact with the world—acting as their alter ego—without ever leaving their home. Vice has more on hikikomori—or people who suffer from extreme social withdrawal. Below you can see OriHime in action as a waiter in a cafe.
Three: This wondrous thing is sold as either a “Corn Tortilla Blanket” or “Pita Throw Blanket.” But as celeb chef Padmalakshmi rightly points out, the correct term is “naan blanket”. And it sells for $25!
Four: There is such a thing called The Journal of Universal Rejection. It exists purely to wring a smile out of overworked, underpaid academics—that rejects “all submissions, regardless of quality.” It’s not new but it’s most certainly funny.
