Dive In

I really love India...That’s how I am. It is rather unfortunate if some people feel that way. I want to assure everyone that it’s not the case so please don’t boycott my films, please watch my films.

That’s how Aamir Khan responded to calls to boycott his upcoming movie ‘Lal Singh Chaddha’—which is an Indian remake of ‘Forrest Gump’. No, this isn’t about the movie—but punishment for comments Khan made in an interview back in 2015. Commenting on fears sparked by a growing climate of intolerance, he said: “When I chat with Kiran at home, she says ‘Should we move out of India?’ That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day.” Yup, that’s what this is about.
