Dive In

Gas transportation to the Nord Stream gas pipeline has been completely stopped until the issues on the operation of the equipment are eliminated.

That’s what the state-owned energy giant Gazprom announced—putting an official end to the supply of Russian gas to the European Union. While EU leaders said they are “ready to react”—and are not afraid of President Vladimir Putin—the euro has already suffered a severe reaction. It slid below 99 cents for the first time in 20 years. Analysts say prospects for European markets are looking “very grim indeed”—but it is good news for the dollar that is riding high. And so it isn’t good news for the Indian rupee either—which will likely sink even further against the dollar.
