Dive In

I have been given injections, which caused heavy bleeding. On the evening of December 11, I was given an injection, which caused light bleeding. Two days later, I was given four injections and medicines, after which I got significantly worse and bled more. The bleeding never stopped.

That’s Muskan Jahan (formerly Pinki) telling a reporter about her miscarriagewhich occurred when she and her husband Rashid were accosted by the Bajrang Dal when they went to register their marriage in Uttar Pradesh. A pregnant Muskan was taken to a shelter home where she began to bleed heavily. Authorities first claimed that the pregnancy was intactwhich she has now flatly refuted. The doctor who treated her claims she was given injections and pills to stop the bleeding and ease the pain. The doctor, however, also says that it isn’t clear if the foetus has a heartbeat. FYI: Muskan alleges that she and Rashid were beaten by 10-15 peopleand mistreated in the shelter home.

Big Story

The strange rules of NRI voting

The TLDR: The government is poised to amend election rules that will allow Non Resident Indians to vote in elections at home. But this privilege will only be extended to voters in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Australia, Germany, France and South Africa. Excluded from this list (for now): millions of Indians living in Gulf countries. The government’s reason for their exclusion is a bit strange.
