We recommend: A cute list of pet podcasts
Editor’s Note: We love our furry friends and we are sure you do too! So, here’s the splainer team’s pick of their favourite pet podcasts. There are informative ones about nutrition and behaviour, but there’s also Willy, the good dog turned pawdcaster for a grin or two.
The PetFed Podcast: This podcast is hosted by Akash Gupta—the brainchild of the biggest pet festival in India. It is a relatively new venture—with just seven episodes—but Gupta has interviewed all the leading experts in the Indian pet product and care industry—from the CEO of Drools to vets like Dr Yash Savla and Dr Nikita Pujari who run the Veterinary Multispeciality Hospital SuperPets and pet nutritionist Dr Piyush Prashanth who has worked in the FMCG and Nutrition sector. In this episode Dr Prashanth explains the need for kibble on top of home-cooked food.
Petonomics: Another Indian podcast tailored for raising pets in our cities. Produced by Ep.Log Media and hosted by Isha, this is an interview-style podcast that gets the conversation going with activists, doctors and experts. We really liked the episodes on pet adoption with Abhishek Joshi, founder of Dog with Blog and pet behaviour with Rajvi from CitizenK9 Dog Training Services.
The Vetpodcast: Hosted by New Zealander retired vet Bryan Gregor, this pod takes a more global approach to the history of animal healthcare. From tending to zoo animals to addressing issues around veterinary mental health, every topic gets covered in mostly bite-sized episodes of 10 to 15 minutes each. For meatier special episodes exceeding 40 minutes, check out ‘Caring for exotic pets’ and ‘Can you blood test a spider?’
The Luchi & Mutton’s: Let’s zero in from international animal health to hyperlocal canine care—this series comes from Gurgaon-based canine behaviour and nutrition consultant Surabhi Venkatesh. Sink your teeth into 22 episodes’ worth of material as Venkatesh explores issues from treating your dog’s acid reflux to analysing attachment styles—with the odd cool feature, like observations of North Goa’s ‘sossegado’ streeties!
Willygooddog podcast: This is more of a silly recommendation. Willy, the good dog, is a pawdcaster who invites his friend Just Jax (a lab) on his show to talk about what they are up to and what their hoomans are up to. The series is written by their pet pawrents (obviously) and is super entertaining. They even have a series where Willy and Jax answer questions sent in by real people, like this one here. Anytime you’re feeling low, just put these short reels on!
Animal Writes with Tim Link: If you love a good animal story, this podcast is for you. Host Tim Link interviews bestselling pet authors, award-winning journalists, and bloggers, uncovering the real-life inspirations behind their work. From the bond between humans and their pets to what became of the animals featured in their tales, every episode offers a mix of heart and insight. Tim also shares snippets from his own books, blogs, and personal experiences, making this a thoughtful listen for pet lovers and story enthusiasts alike.
Purrrcast: For anyone who’s ever wished they could talk to their cat, this podcast comes pretty close. Hosted by LA-based feline fans Sara Iyer and Steven Ray Morris, The Purrrcast features laid-back chats with fellow cat lovers about their whiskered companions. From quirky cat behaviors to heartwarming adoption tales, it’s a fun, easygoing listen.
