About Champaca: We are writing to you from Champaca Bookstore, an independent, women-run bookstore and children's library in Bangalore. At Champaca, we curate our books and events to enable the discovery of diverse narratives. We are a community of readers. We have experienced the world differently thanks to the stories we've read and shared—they enrich us like nothing else, and we’re excited to share that with you! Until you can make it to our much-loved, quiet, green space in Bangalore, we can bring the books to you—we ship across India.
This March at Champaca, we’ve been slowly restocking our shelves and opening our doors to customers again. If you’re in Bangalore, we’re delighted to let you know our small cafe is now open again, and that we are hosting limited in-person events—will we see you there? Keep an eye on our social media to be informed about upcoming events and discussions.
If you’re not in Bangalore, we’re also working hard to bring you our curation digitally—through our events, and on our website’s shelves. Have you discovered a new favourite book recently? We would love to hear from you!
We’re now three months into the Champaca Reading Challenge, a list of 24 prompts to encourage diverse reading and discovery in 2022. It has been a delight to see what our community has been reading along with us (click here to see what people have been posting about!). In our small team, we’ve been reading along with the challenge too—one of us recently read ‘Bel Canto’ (for the prompt “a book about music”), and another ‘The Gospel of the Eels’ (for “a book about fishermen”). If this sounds interesting to you, it’s not too late to join—find the full list of prompts here, and read with us through the year!
You can find us and our book recommendations on our website, Instagram, and Twitter.
