So we’re thinking of doubling down on art this week—unless something irresistible comes along. Today, we have YG Srimati, one of the great post-independence painters whose work reflects the classic themes of that nationalist generation—reclaiming Indian tradition from its colonial legacy. Our favourite is titled ‘Young Woman in Dressing Room’—but our template doesn’t quite do it justice. The above are her equally lovely paintings of Saraswati and Kali. Architectural Digest has an excellent piece on a Metropolitan Museum exhibition of her work.
