About Champaca: We are writing to you from Champaca Bookstore, an independent, women-run bookstore and children's library in Bangalore. At Champaca, we curate our books and events to enable the discovery of diverse narratives. We are a community of readers. We have experienced the world differently thanks to the stories we've read and shared—they enrich us like nothing else, and we’re excited to share that with you! Until you can make it to our much-loved, quiet, green space in Bangalore, we can bring the books to you—we ship across India.
June has been a busy month at Champaca. We’re thrilled to launch the third instalment of our Champaca Book Subscription and Book Club! Our theme for this year, from July 2022 to June 2023, is Loneliness and Connection. In the past few years, we have been thinking about the ways in which we connect with the world, and each other, especially in times of isolation. Loneliness is a collective experience, one that counterintuitively connects humanity. For twelve months, subscribers will get a box of carefully curated books that explore the themes of loneliness and connection, right at their doorstep!
Join us in reading narratives from across the world, about how we find connections with people, things, and places by signing up for the subscription. Every subscriber gets to be part of the Champaca Book Club where we discuss the books we've read, what we thought of them, and how they made us feel. We’re excited to connect with readers across the country, and create a community of book-lovers.
We also have a book signing at Champaca today with the creators of ‘Hope On: An Anthology of Comics’. The book is a collection of graphic narratives chronicling real-life snippets from the lives of women who found kindness, compassion, and love during uncertain times. The book was produced during the pandemic by independent artists. Drop in on June 26, 4 PM onwards, to meet the creators and get yourself a signed copy.
