About Champaca: We are writing to you from Champaca Bookstore, an independent bookstore and children's library in Bangalore. At Champaca, we curate our books and events to enable the discovery of diverse narratives. We are a community of readers. We have experienced the world differently thanks to the stories we've read and shared—they enrich us like nothing else, and we’re excited to share that with you! Until you can make it to our much-loved, quiet, green space in Bangalore, we can bring the books to you—we ship across India.
We kept ourselves busy with many wonderful events and workshops at Champaca this month.
In early September, we had a packed house for a conversation between Yogesh Maitreya and Vijeta Kumar—centred around the important work that Panther's Paw does as an indie publisher of Dalit-Bahujan works. In that same week, we hosted ‘Slowing Down’, a journaling workshop by Shubhashree Sangameswaran, a way to help people relax, pay attention, and learn to use art as a tool to record experiences.
On our Instagram, we took our followers on a virtual tour of our bookshelves by doing an A to Z of our Indian fiction shelves. And finally, just when we thought September couldn’t get any better, our last event of the month had us reeling with joy! Our store was full of little children, scrunched up on the floor, drawing kittens squashing things, as Bijal Vachharajani and Rajiv Eipe, the author and illustrator of ‘Kitten Trouble’, did a book reading and art activity with them!
If you’re in Bangalore, our store has been full of birdsong lately! Do come by, spend some time browsing our shelves, have a slice of cake, and go home with a bag full of books.
And as always, you can find us and our book recommendations on our website, Instagram, and Twitter!
