Explore our collection of Zubaan Books!
At Champaca, our bookshelves are always filled with new titles published by indie publishers from across India. In this section, we’re showcasing some wonderful titles by Zubaan—a feminist publishing house based in Delhi. Zubaan is known for bringing fresh voices and different, often ignored perspectives into the literary scene.
One of our favourite books from their collection is ‘Name Place Animal Thing’ by debut author Daribha Lyndem. Written elegantly, it tells the coming of age story of a young Khasi woman who grew up in the politically charged city of Shillong. Through interconnected stories that build on each other, Lyndem examines the boundaries that exist between the adult world and a child. We also love ‘Of Mothers And Others’ edited by Jaishree Misra, which is a collection of thought-provoking essays, poems, and stories by a range of Indian writers like Urvashi Butalia, Tishani Doshi, Shashi Deshpande and more that challenge the conventional notions around motherhood.
Zubaan also publishes inspiring and thought-provoking graphic novels. We highly recommend ‘The Elephant In The Room’ by SPRING Collective, which brings together sixteen women comic artists from India and Germany. The book collects these women's thoughts on how they perceive the world, their identities, power, love, sex and family.
