About Champaca: We are writing to you from Champaca Bookstore, an independent, women-run bookstore and children's library in Bangalore. At Champaca, we curate our books and events to enable the discovery of diverse narratives. We are a community of readers. We have experienced the world differently thanks to the stories we've read and shared—they enrich us like nothing else, and we’re excited to share that with you! Until you can make it to our much-loved, quiet, green space in Bangalore, we can bring the books to you—we ship across India.
Running a small, independent bookstore is hard business, but we love it: bringing our readers books from all over the world and across India, planning events and conversations, and talking to our community about our favourite reads! One of the things we aim to do at Champaca is create a community of book-lovers and readers.
We find that books can be the starting point for so many conversations. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we now host our events online. It’s allowed us to talk to authors from India and from all over the world, like Roxane Gay, Shokoofeh Azar, and Nisha Susan. You can watch our past events on YouTube, and find the books we’ve been discussing on our website.
We also started the Book Subscription, a curated, handpicked box of books that arrives on your doorstep every month. We also run a monthly book club, and you can choose to join our warm community of book-lovers. In the past, we’ve chatted with authors, publishers and translators. This year, we’re reading books that talk about different ideas of travelling—through space, through time, and inward.
