A list of curious facts
One: Why are Captchas getting so freaking hard? Vox offers an entertaining and illuminating answer (h/t founding member Likesh Bhambhwani)
Two: Want to buy some of the world’s most expensive, space-aged wine? Get ready to shell out $1 million for a bottle of Petrus 2000 which spent 438 days on the International Space Station (A million for a Merlot?!). If it’s any consolation, the plonk comes in fancy packaging: a hand-made “celestial chest” featuring a “moving solar system sculpture … a crystal decanter, crystal glasses, and a corkscrew made from a meteorite discovered at the North Pole.”
Three: So what does Jupiter really look like? Well, as all Insta influencers know, it’s all about the lighting. Below is the exact same planet in infrared (left), visible light (center), and ultraviolet (right).
Four: Did you know that that old 80s song—’Africa’ by Toto—will play on loop for an eternity in the middle of the Namibian desert?
Five: Scientists just discovered that a worm called Ramisyllis multicaudata has anywhere from 500 to 1000 anuses. Also, more mind-blowingly this: “When Ramisyllis decides it’s time to procreate, its abundance of wandering derrières go through a transformation. The branch ends basically convert into genitals, filling with eggs or sperm.” Gizmodo has more such entertaining details.
