![]() Hindus, Sikhs and Christians have their religious symbols. I want to highlight the plurality and diversity that exists in our society. Why has the hijab only been chosen for this hostile discrimination? Is it not because of religion?... Should we prohibit turbans for Sikhs? Girls wear bangles also. Why is there this discrimination against poor Muslim girls? ![]() |

That’s the former advocate general of Karnataka Ravi Varma Kumar arguing on behalf of Muslim students challenging the hijab ban in the High Court. While the case is being argued in courts, Karnataka colleges have shut out students wearing a hijab—even on campuses where there was never a prohibition against it. The justification is the High Court order prohibiting religious attire—but only in institutions with a uniform code. That critical part of the order appears to have been entirely ignored.
