That’s how the chairman of the panel of judges described Geetanjali Shree’s ‘Tomb of Sand’—which became the first novel written in an Indian language to win the International Booker Prize. Shree will share the £50,000 prize with her translator Daisy Rockwell. Some of the novelists Shree beat out for the honour include the Nobel Prize-winning Polish novelist Olga Tokarczuk.
