Translation: “We will turn the houses from where the stones were pelted to a heap of rubble.” That’s what state home minister Narottam Mishra warned after a Ram Navami procession sparked a communal clash—including stone pelting—in a Muslim neighbourhood in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh. And he kept his word. Within hours, local authorities launched a demolition drive against “illegal” construction—razing 16 houses and 29 shops in five localities mostly owned by Muslims. Quint has details and Indian Express highlights the case of a Muslim family which built its house as part of PM Modi’s scheme for affordable housing.
Editor’s note: As you may have noticed, we have a sponsor today: Wonder Girls Fellowship. Full disclosure: This is a paid partnership—but the kind that we are happy to declare. Founded by Varsha Adusumilli, Wonder Girls is a brand we are delighted to partner with: a company with values we share: equality and empowerment. That said, we always look for branded content that will be just as valuable to you. We hope you will check out their fellowship, and find it useful for someone you know.
Important heads up: Easter weekend is coming up, and the splainer team will be taking Friday off. So there will be no edition on that day:)
