Dive In

The release advised the people to not to share photocopy of their Aadhaar with any organisation because it can be misused. Alternatively, a masked Aadhaar which displays only the last 4 digits of the Aadhaar number, can be used. However, in view of the possibility of the misinterpretation of the Press Release, the same stands withdrawn with immediate effect.

That’s the IT ministry trying to quell a row sparked by an earlier government advisory—which warned people not share photocopies of their Aadhaar card with companies. The advice came a little late for citizens who have been merrily handing over their cards to hotels etc. So the ministry decided the best solution was to maintain the status quo: withdraw the notice and tell everyone to go back to exercising “normal prudence.”
